    Hi everyone,

STN is continuing the STN Coffee Lecture series with two sessions in March 2022. These webinars contain concise, easily understandable information on various aspects of STN commands, interfaces or specific databases and are about 10 minutes in length. The two STN Coffee Lectures for March are –

Title: DEAD or ALIVE – Searching Legal Status Indicators in STNext®

Abstract: Due to the plethora of legal status information and potential changes that a patent may undergo during its lifetime the analysis if a patent is still in force can become a major dread. The newly established legal status indicators on STNext, which we will discuss during the coffee lecture, significantly simplify and speed up that task.

Title: LSC2 vs. LSEC – Legal Status Categories in INPADOC databases

Abstract: Legal Status event searching can be a challenging process, since legal events from different jurisdictions are given a number of different labels, so comprehensive searching requires retrieving data from all relevant events. For many years, FIZ Karlsruhe’s editorial team has reviewed more than 4200 international legal status codes and assigned each code to a Legal Status Category, indexed in the field /LSC2. Based on the WIPO standard ST.27, the EPO has introduced another classification scheme for INPADOC legal events since 2000. These new categories are indexed in the /LSEC field.

These two categories of legal status events in INPADOC have a different focus, and both can be used in complementary ways to increase search efficiency and return of relevant results. This brief session will cover the differences between these two fields so that searchers can use both with confidence.

Title: Enriching your Multi-file Patent Searches – Additional Value by using STN Fulltext Databases

Abstract: STNext contains many databases of full-text patent literature. This valuable and expansive data can complement and enhance retrieval in your value-added multifile searches. This session will describe the full-text data and special features available to STNext searchers - including the new RUFULL file (Russian and Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) patents) - and cover best practices for including this data into multifile searches that also utilize value-added databases like DWPI and CAplus.
