PIUG 2011 Biotechnology Meeting
New Biologics: Proteins & Beyond
Wednesday, February 9, 2011
Genentech
611 Gateway Blvd. Building 83
South San Francisco, CA 94080
Overview
Branching out to the West Coast for its fifth annual meeting, the PIUG Biotechnology Meeting focuses on methodologies and resources for patent information professionals who specialize in biotechnology search and analysis. This year’s theme is New Biologics: Proteins & Beyond.
Biotechnology in 2011 has come a long way since its origin. The distinction between biologics and small-molecule compounds is beginning to blur as we now see hybrid molecules and completely new modalities: antibody drug conjugates, peptidomimetics, antibody fragments, RNAi, etc. When we consider freedom-to-operate on biotech targets we now need to consider patent expiry, supplementary protection certificates, and other related patents.
