The conference will feature world-renowned experts on patent information for technology research and planning, for legal organizations, for patent offices and for overall corporate IP management (technology licensing and related activities). The conference will include many opportunities for discussion and part of the activities on the Tuesday of the conference will be dedicated to visiting the exhibit hall to learn about the new patent information tools and developments within the industry. Many professionally enriching workshops will also be held in conjunction with this conference (before, during and after the technical sessions).
Attendees typically have a professional, scientific, economic or technical interest in patents and represent a multitude of organizations including corporations, universities, government agencies, non-government organizations and non-profit organizations. Previous conferences over the last three years that were held in Cincinnati, Ohio; Denver, Colorado and Alexandria, Virginia drew several hundred attendees from all over the world including Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States. We expect over 400 attendees in 2014.
Join us for a truly great conference to meet others with a professional interest in patent information in sunny and warm Garden Grove, California!

We are absolutely delighted to welcome Dr. Stephen Boyer, Research Solutions for the ChemPharma Industry, IBM Almaden Research Center, the 2014 IPI-Award winner, as the keynote speaker at the PIUG Annual Conference.
Stephen K. Boyer, Ph.D.
In the interdisciplinary area of chemistry and computer science Stephen pioneered the use of computers to automatically curate scientific literature and patents, thereby expanding the utility of published information in biomedicine, the physical sciences and intellectual property. More recently, he initiated a collaboration of pharmaceutical industry leaders and international governmental organizations to enhance access and curation of scientific information. This formed not only the basis of a new commercial offering for IBM but also the donation of ~ 2 million molecular structures to NIH as a PubChem deposition. His background combines ten years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Ciba-Geigy / Novartis) with 25 years at IBM. He has authored numerous publications and patents in the areas of new drug syntheses and text- and image-analytics. His B.A. is from Temple University in Philadelphia and Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from Tufts University.
PIUG welcomes new and returning sponsors to join us for networking and showcasing your products or services to our international audience of patent information users. Please our summary of Sponsorship Opportunities.
