Travel and Tourism


Attendees are responsible for making their own hotel reservations at Hilton Alexandria Mark Center. A special group rate of $170 is available for attendees.

The room reservation deadline for the special group rate is April 3, 2013.

The hotel is only minutes away from the USPTO and offers free hotel shuttle service to Reagan Washington National Airport, and the numerous monuments in and around Washington DC. There is also a free hotel shuttle to the Pentagon City Shopping Mall and Metro Station every 30 minutes from 6am to 10:30pm. Amenities include wireless Internet. Old Town Alexandria, with shopping and dining, is also minutes away.

Hilton Alexandria Mark Center Shuttle

The Hilton Alexandria Mark Center offers complimentary shuttle service to and from Pentagon City Mall/Metro (on the blue and yellow lines) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Hotel Shuttle Schedule

The Hilton Alexandria Mark Center offers complimentary shuttle service 7 days a week from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Pentagon City Mall & Metro/National Airport

Our vans depart from the front of the Hotel on the hour, arrive at Pentagon City Mall/Metro at approximately 10 minutes after the hour and continue on to Ronald Reagan National Airport.

The van arrives at the airport at approximately 20 minutes after the hour and 10 minutes before the hour. Pick-up is at Terminal A, Terminal B door 5 and Terminal C door 9. There is no need to call the hotel; just go outside from baggage claim and wait for the next shuttle.

Our last pick up at Pentagon City is at approximately 10:10 p.m. Our last pick up at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is at approximately 10:45 p.m.

National Airport/King Street Metro Station

Our vans depart from the front of the Hotel on the half-hour; arrive at Ronald Reagan National Airport at approximately 45 minutes past the hour. We pick up at Terminal A, Terminal B door 5 and Terminal C door 9 and continue on to King Street Metro where they arrive approximately on the hour.

Our last pick up at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is at approximately 10:45 p.m. Our last pick up at King Street is at approximately 11:00 p.m.


By car

From Richmond & I-95 North:

  • I-95 N to EXIT 170A-B toward I-395 N / Washington / I-495 N / Tysons Corner.
  • Merge onto I-395 N via EXIT 170A on the left toward Washington. 4.6 mi
  • Take the Seminary Rd exit, EXIT 4.
  • Turn left onto Seminary Rd. If you reach I-395 N you've gone about 0.2 miles too far
  • Make a U-turn at N Beauregard St onto Seminary Rd.
  • 5000 SEMINARY RD is on the right.

From Baltimore & I-95 South:

  • From I-95 S in Maryland,
  • Take the Balt / Wash Pkwy South exit, EXIT 22B, toward Washington.
  • Merge onto MD-295 S (Crossing into District of Columbia). 6.1 mi
  • MD-295 S becomes DC-295 S. 4.0 mi
  • Take the I-695 exit toward I-395 / Capitol Hill
  • Merge onto I-295 N
  • I-295 N becomes Southeast Fwy / I-695 N. 1.1 mi
  • Southeast Fwy / I-695 N becomes I-395 S (Crossing into Virginia). 6.7 mi
  • Take EXIT 4 toward Seminary Road.
  • Keep right to take the Seminary Rd West ramp.
  • Turn slight right onto Seminary Rd.
  • Make a U-turn at N Beauregard St onto Seminary Rd.
  • 5000 SEMINARY RD is on the right.

From Maryland & I-270 South:

Take I-495 South into Virginia. Take exit #43 (George Washington Parkway). Travel about 10 miles south. Exit at Reagan National Airport, stay in right lane, and follow signs to Crystal City. Take Rt. 1 South exit: and get in the left hand lane. Turn left at first light (27th Street), hotel is on the left.

By train

Via Amtrak

Take the train to Union Station, Washington DC. Transfer to the Washington Metro. Take the Red line to Gallery Place/Chinatown. (You are best off in the last car of the train.) Transfer to the Yellow line southbound to the Pentagon City Station. Either taxi to the hotel, or arrange with the hotel for their shuttle beforehand.

Mount Vernon is the estate and burial place of George Washington, first president of the United States. See his mansion, plantation and gardens.

    • Lincoln Memorial
    • Constitution Gardens, which contains the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. (Constitution Ave. between 17th and 23rd. Foggy Bottom Metro station)
    • Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Potomac Park, and Tidal Basin are all within easy walking distance of each other, and just across the Potomac River from Crystal City. It is a marvelous walk worthy of a few hours. I find the Jefferson Memorial the most beautiful and thought provoking of any site I've seen in the 12 years I've lived in the area. (Smithsonian Metro station)

  • National Gallery of Art (nearest Metro stops are Judiciary Square on the Red Line, Archives on the Yellow/Green Lines, and Smithsonian on the Blue/Orange Lines)
  • National Geographic Society, Explorers Hall. Interactive geography science center, with displays on sea exploration, human science, mementos of the Peary and Byrd expeditions, and more. (17th and M Street, Farragut North or Farragut West metro stations)
