Update: It has been announced during  March 16, 2021 Patentscope webinar, that Markush Patent Search would be introduced at Patenstcope within a few weeks. Further information would be provided at Patentscope Flash webinar  March 23, 2021 at 12:30 PM ET and March 25, 2021 at 8:30 AM CET (Registration link for both webinars). See also pp.48-59 of a presentation of Dec.8/10 2021webinar "Patentscope...Plans for 2021" Markush search preview.  WIPO also plans to conduct training on Markush searching with invited experts after the launch for a nominal fee.

WIPO Global Databases Division offers two webinars “Chemical searches in PATENTSCOPE

Registration Link (Choose from March 16, 2021 or March 18, 2021 events)

Previous webinars “Chemical searches in PATENTSCOPE”: September 8 and 10, 2020 (presentation, 75 p., no video); see also recording of April 23, 2020 webinar (video, 24:09 and slides, 58 p.)

Presentation of Sep. 2020 webinar describes basic features if chemical search on Patentscope:

Coverage of patents with indexed chemical compounds (p.13), IPC codes required for indexing (p.14), Searchable fields (p.15), CAS Registry number search format (p.25),  structure editor input by chemical name (p. 24, 27,28); search of InChIKeys in CHEM field (p.29); Compounds tabs with structures and compound names, if any, recognized in Title/Abstract/Description/Claims (p.30),  highlighting hit compound in patent texts with structures displayed when the highlighted terms are hovered over  (p. 31); CHEM terms could be combined with other fields (Applicant, Patent assignee, country, dates, IPC, p.33-35,37,63), CAS/IUPAC name searching (p.40-41), Examples of exact structure search starting from INN (p. 42) and substructure search (p.46-48); compound search in claims (p.49, 64), cross-lingual expansion keywords to Japanese (p.53-55), etc.

In addition, during WIPO webinar “Chemical searches in PATENTSCOPE for & by experts" held Sep.24, 2020, among other things, was discussed advanced features of query preparation using  InfoChem structure editor ICEdit (Version 3.2.0.), implemented in Patentscope for structure and substructure searching.

In particular, during Sep. 24, 2020 webinar an InfoChem expert demonstrated how specify that a query atom includes or excludes any element(s) from a list [List/NOTList]; that query atom is /or not a part of a ring [Ring bond count=2 or 0], number non-hydrogen substituent of a query atom [Substitution count=…], how to search a pharmaceutical salt by grouping base and anion/cation in one compound [which would generate a single InChIKey].

Examples of use advanced query preparation features of ICEdit structure editor could be found in a ICEdit  Manual and an ICFSE tutorial listed below:
