PIUG Newsletter Advertiser Rates & Specifications
The PIUG Newsletter is printed twice annually. Issues run 30 to 40 pages in length. Newsletters are mailed to all PIUG members. In 2006 PIUG membership count was approximately 600.
Deadlines for Contributions
- Spring issue: February 1
- Fall issue: August 1
Rates
- Full-page Color - Outside Back Cover: $625 US
- Full-page Color: $438 US
- Full-page black & white: $125 US
- Half-page black & white: $63 US
- Quarter-page black & white: $38 US
Ad Space Availability
- Color ad space is limited and in high demand. Please inquire about color space availability with the editor. Advertisers must verify with the editor that there is color ad space available.
- Black and white ad space is usually available, unless specified otherwise by the editor or Newsletter Committee.
Ad Delivery
Ads should be emailed to the editor. To ship ads to the editor on CD or DVD, please contact the editor.
Accepted File Types
- Preferred format is a print-ready PDF file. All images must be at
least 300 dpi, with all fonts embedded. Using the PDF/x-1a
setting when distilling your PDF is highly recommended.
- CMYK TIFF files or EPS files with all fonts converted to
outlines will also be accepted.
- Submitting your ad in GIF or JPEG format is not
recommended.
- If you prefer to use JPEG files, the minimum resolution is 300 dpi.
- GIF is only recommended for web graphics.
- COLOR ADS: save as CMYK, rather than RGB.
- Serif font size for color PDF ads should not be less than 8 pt.
- Text ads may also be sent to the editor in: .DOC, .RTF, or .TXT
formats. However, note that these are not preferable file formats for printing graphics.
Any files that do not meet the above mentioned
requirements will be returned to advertiser for correction.

- Width: 8.5 inches (216 mm)
- Height: 11.0 inches (280 mm)
Advertisement Measurements
- Color ads are only available as full-page ads.
- B&W ads are available in quarter, half, and full page sizes.
- If a 0.25-inch (6 mm) to 0.50 inch (12 mm) border around ads is
preferred, please deduct from the measurements on both the width and height, and advise us that you do not want ads to bleed.
- Please add 1/8-inch (3 mm) bleed margin on each side of ad
measurement to the below measurements.
- Text ads will be published with 0.25 inch (6mm) to 0.50 inches
(12 mm) of blank space (white) borders.

- HORIZONTAL HALF-PAGE (Black & White)

Non-member Newsletter Mailings
- Only paid members will receive the newsletter.
- Advertisers are not mailed courtesy copies of the newsletter due to each issue's high cost.
- It is recommended that advertisers wishing to receive copies of the newsletter pay the membership fee ($35US in 2007) at least two weeks prior to printing.
- If an advertiser would like to receive a single issue of the newsletter as a non-member, the advertiser must tell the editor prior to printing. We will add the below charges to the advertisement invoice:
U.S. addresses: $15
Non-U.S. addresses: $20
Ad Payment
- Advertisers will be invoiced by email after the newsletter publishes.
If you would like to make payments ahead of time, please submit them to the PIUG treasurer, Ken Koubek.
- Checks should be made payable to the Patent Information Users
Group, Inc. Note the differing addresses depending on the method used to send the payment.
