TRAVEL AND RELATED BERKELEY INFO:

For information about public transportation, taxis, and shuttles to and from either Oakland or San Francisco airports, etc. visit http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/aboutberkeley/transportation.html.

For cool things to do in Berkeley visit http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/coolthings/ .

For a select list of restaurants in the area visit http://sseos.lbl.gov/Restaurants/Restaurants.html .

List of nearby restaurants, as provided by Nancy Lambert:

Skates (510-549-1900).  It's under a mile away from the meeting location (near H's Lordship's), right on the water with a fantastic view across the Bay to the SF skyline and all three bridges.  It has excellent seafood, hot homemade focaccio bread, and a lot of other good things.

If you don't mind going a little distance (no more than 10 minutes' drive), there are some very nice restaurants on 4th Street in Berkeley.

Ginger Island (510-644-0444) does Pacific Rim and Asian/fusion cuisine;

Café Rouge (510-525-1440) has an oyster bar and does California cuisine with very good meat;

O Chame (510-841-8783) does Japanese country cuisine.

The Solano Grill and Bar is supposed to be quite good, too; it's not too far from the freeway on Solano Avenue (510-525-8686).

One of her favorites for an interesting combination of Chinese and seafood, again with a world-class view of the city, is the Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood Restaurant in Emeryville (510-655-3388).  It's just two freeway exits down toward the Bay Bridge and then in a ways on the Powell Street Marina.

Finally, If you're feeling REALLY extravagant, there's always the famous Chez Panisse in Berkeley (510-548-5525).  You would have to choose a night and make reservations now; it's a fixed-menu dinner (menu not announced until a week ahead).
